Why hiring a designer is about trust, not taste

It’s easier to make any decision when you can trust the outcome. The same applies when hiring a designer – when you work with someone you have confidence in to deliver high-quality work on time and in-line with the brief, the creative process becomes far more enjoyable and effective.

But that level of trust doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built over time through a number of aspects. The first being collaboration. Projects are shared – everyone involved has something valuable to offer and the best results come from working collaboratively rather than in isolation. Even something as simple as referring to a project as ‘our work’ can make a difference – it signals care and shared responsibility, showing that it’s not just your project or my project, but something we both value and are invested in.

Trust is also built through clear communication. Keeping clients informed of what is being done, what has been completed, and what comes next ensures expectations are always aligned and nothing feels uncertain. Questions are answered promptly with helpful, concise, and honest responses, keeping momentum without overcomplicating the process.

And throughout the process, genuine interest is shown by engaging with the people as well as the project. Strong working relationships aren’t built by focusing on the work alone.

Strong visuals may catch the eye, but it’s a smooth, transparent process that builds trust. When clients feel confident and supported at every step, the experience becomes a pleasure rather than a chore – and that trust is what builds lasting relationships.
